To discover as an adult, that you were always right as child–that your feeling of never quite belonging anywhere, was incredibly accurate. You may have quelled the burn of this realization during your exploratory, young years. However, it comes back when you are coming down from your high and feeling the tightness of yourself, that tightness that comes with the knowledge that you were right straight off from the beginning. You travel new places and live in big cities and small towns and you are the foreigner, the star, the awkward outsider, you are the only one in your world and others know that right away when they see you. It is neither tragedy nor joy, just the simple understanding that really, you don’t belong to any one place any longer.
